The Little Joys Of MY Life!

EEveryday, before I doze off to sleep, I set an alarm in my mobile to wake me up at 6 in the morning. And every morning, the moment my alarm goes off, I lazily search for the snooze button, and snatch an extra 10-15 minutes of sleep. I could have easily set the alarm for 6:15 and woken up straight, but then, that would not have given me the joy that this gives me. That ‘extra’ something always makes me happy. That ‘extra’ is something which wouldn’t have existed otherwise. Likewise, the last dollop of ghee from the saucer on ‘my’ plate every morning, makes me feel special. That last scoop of nuts on my ice-cream, that last bit of Bhindi on my plate, that last gulp of milk-shake, that last pani-puri …..these things not just make me happy, but they give me the satisfaction that I haven’t missed out on the last part of something that made me feel good. I may sound selfish, yeah; but no, I don’t think I am. ‘Cause,  most of the people whom I have been with so far, are scarcely interested in the last bit. They hugely concentrate on the quantity that they get to have. This definitely does make things all the more easy for me ;) Oh! Am I straying away from the topic I started with? Maybe yes, a tiny bit. But I’m enjoying what I’m writing right now, and I hope you are enjoying reading this as well. Oh yeah!, if you think I am talking of the freebies or the extras that one normally hunts for, nope, I am not. (Though I love them too, my point here is  something else, so I’ll stick to this and take that up another time :P ;) ).  So, how many of you relate to what I feel ? How many of you feel that this ‘feeling’ is probably one of the most awesome ones you have ever felt? I’d love to know what you think. :

MANDOLIN U. SRINIVAS -THE MAN WHO WILL CONTINUE TO LIVE.

I was around 12 years old when I first saw him, he was brisk in his walk, humble in demeanor, and always had a smile on his face. He definitely didn’t know who I was. I was pretty much in awe of his music already, and when my  dad told me that he was the one who played the music I listened to every morning, I was super-excited to catch a glimpse of him. So when I looked in the direction my dad was pointing at, I saw a very simple, carefree person walking towards the place where we were standing. I couldn’t contain my joy, and I automatically had a huge, huge smile on my face. As I stood facing him, he saw my enthusiastic face, and responded with a smile, with his palms folded, to say “Namaste”- to me, a complete stranger! That instantly left  a huge impact on me. His down to earth personality totally humbled me, changed my thought process. I was never too keen on “carnatic” music. It was always my mom who made me go to classes, take part in music competitions, listen to concerts etc. It was always writing, speaking and reading for me, in those terms. I am the kind who switches channels whenever there is a ‘carnatic’ music concert on TV. I am the kind who changes the frequency of the radio stations whenever I hear somebody singing carnatic music there. And that implied for both instrumental and vocal “carnatic” music. But I had exceptions. Two, to be precise. I loved the music created by the ‘Ganesh-Kumaresh’ duo, and of course, U.Srinivas. They had a soothing effect on me, always. And more than that, I just loved the way they played their instruments, so effortlessly, so gracefully. There was something though, about the music, the magic that U.Srinivas created. Just listening to it made me forget all the hitches, the glitches that I had in life. His music always proved to be an elixir to my happiness. Another time, last year, when I was hunting for guests for one of our events at college(TEDx Sairam 2014), I had this opportunity to invite him over. Though his schedule didn't allow him to be a part of our event(as he had already signed up for some other cause), I had one of the most memorable conversations of my life, ever, with him. And now, when I heard the news of his demise, I was unable to take it in, unable to digest the fact that he was no more, no more to create the magic that millions in this world yearn to listen to, no more to charm the billions of people who crave to be a part of his concerts, no more to spread happiness around him with his persona. The emptiness that his death has brought to the world of music, can never be filled. At an age so young, when the world is waiting to listen to his music, he is gone.Gone forever! But his music, will continue to create magic all over the world, will continue to linger in the ears of the millions and billions of music lovers and others, and will forever remain one of the prime sources that offer solace to me. He always had, and will continue to have a special place in the world of music, and in the hearts of people. Rest In Peace, Mandolin U.Srinivas. You will be missed. Forever.

Save Earth!

.
SAVE EARTH!

PART 1:

It is past midnight,
The axe is still at work-
“chik-chak”,”chik-chak”,
The birds have all flown away with fright
The axe is still at work,
Still at work; with all its might!
The land is now all hard and barren,
There’s no more wood in the woods,
The wells are all dark and dry,
And there is no moisture in the air-
But “chik-chak”,”chik-chak”,
The axe is still at work,
Still at work; with all its might!
The sun is scorching;
And the weather is sultry,
The sky is clear,
And there is not a cloud in sight!
But “chik-chak”,”chik-chak”…
The axe is still at work,
Still at work; with all its might!

PART 2:

“Drip-Drop”,” Drip-Drop”,
Water leaks from an open tap,
Not one cares, to stop the drip,
To stop the drip; to save the drop!
The “Drip” is over and the “Drop” is gone;
There’s water, water everywhere,
But, to drink, there’s not a drop;
In comes the drought, in comes the famine,
And, life has come to a complete stop!

PART 3:

A stitch in time saves nine,
It is time to bring back the rains,
To put an end to the famine-
As every sapling makes a tree,
And every tree a forest-ground,
Let’s make every sapling count!
But, for the drought, we might have not thought,
To stop every drip; to save every drop,
For, every tiny drop indeed makes a “MIGHTY OCEAN”!

The BIG Charisma

(this is an inspirational poem, that will make everybody achieve something really great in their lives,i assure!)

When the world outside,
remains dark,
just for you;
when the people outside,
remain furious,Frown
just with you;
when the place
around you,
tells you,
you are a "nobodyInnocent"
think "BIG"!

when you lose,
when your luck fails,
when you are miserable
and you are misunderstood;
when people forget you,
or tend to ignore you,
or intend to hurt,
just think "BIG"!Smile

when you are not listened to,
your presence is not felt,
and you feel lost------
when you break down
and lose your self confidence
or feel bitter,
dream "BIG"!

when people step over you,
or make you cry hard,Cry
and you think you are---
"A LOSER", "A GONER"
and you forget to smile,
just dream "BIG"!Wink

when nobody you like,believes in you,
and they lose their faith in what you can do,
or throw away hopes of what you are capable of,
become "BIG"!Cool

BE YOURSELF,   BELIEVE IN YOURSELF,
ACHIEVE "BIG":FOR YOU ARE BORN TO WIN!

(YOU ARE THE BEST ALWAYS!!!)

BECAUSE "BIG" ALWAYS STANDS FOR

B   - 'B'ecause

I     - 'I'm    (THIS 'I' IN "BIG" REFERS TO EVERY INDIVIDUAL READING THIS POEM)

G   - 'G'reat!

.
“An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind” said the father our nation, Mahatma Gandhi, a staunch believer of peace.  And this talk about India being a soft target, for the terrorists, is not entirely baseless, but now I put a question here.
We all  stand united in showcasing the fact that India is poor, the politicians are corrupt, its people are illiterate and this, on the whole makes our motherland look pretty skint and cheap – a very good opportunity for the ‘so-called’ terrorists to hunt us down.  But do we ever think of doing our moral duty and responsibility completely? Do we defend our country, our motherland, which has given us so much to admire? Never! (Only very few can be handpicked, really!).  Are we not patriotic enough or are we ungrateful so as to feel ashamed of calling ourselves Indians? And last of all, we claim that the people are illiterate and the politicians are corrupt!
Hello, are we really awake? Because we are the ones who elect them.   Which means we don’t actually do our duty properly and are not really concerned about India’s prospects?  We are all too full with ego, envy and jealousy that we are not really bothered about what happens to the country but we get carried away with our personal glory.  And India which believes in the policy “live and let live” has now become vulnerable to the terrorists attacks.  We must remember though that there can neither be another Gandhi nor Obama.  At the same time, we must keep in mind the fact that you don't have security provided free in this world, only opportunity.  So, before it is too late let's rise ahead to grab it and stay vigilant before another 26/11 happens – by mistake. And as it is said, "happiness hides in life’s small details", let us, without stepping over our moral values and shifting blames over others, learn to maintain unity in diversity, enjoy every single minute of our life , in this great country.

GOOD MORNING ….INDIA!

First things first. Sincere congratulations to Mr.Aamir Khan on his amazing efforts to make us face the reality that is actually taking place in today’s scenario, for throwing light on the truth, for waking us up, from our deep sleep of ignorance, through his show “Satyameva Jayate”.(Though this is an after thought, as the show ended long ago!!)
The episodes of this show did leave me thinking………I wondered if we were all under some kind of spell that had kept us all oblivious to the dirty picture around us, or were we ignorant enough to not even notice what was happening around us?!
Actually, the problem is we do not prioritize... …these days we are more concerned about purchasing high priced tickets to watch the IPL matches at the stadium, than helping our fellow Indians who are not rich enough to afford even a morsel!!!
As long as we get our two square meals a day, As long as we are hale and hearty, as long as our personal ego is not hurt, or our personal glory is not at stake, we are not bothered by anything that is happening around us……..be it the CWG scam, the 2G spectrum, the 26/11 incident in Mumbai, the Nepal plane crash……..everything remains just a piece of news to us.
Moreover, to do something for the country, we think we need to be social activists… We always feel the need to have a Gandhiji or an Anna Hazareji to start a revolution, to stand up against wrong…
Is stopping something that is not right, that difficult in today’s world that, you have to support it or remain silent, in order to survive?
 Let’s just give it a thought……..as a matter of fact, it is definitely possible for us to oppose something, that is not feasible, that is happening right under our nose, starting from things that happen in our day to day life, right from dumping the garbage in the middle of the roads, to crossing the roads when the signal is not green, to driving without license, to paying a lump sum to the traffic police for having driven without a helmet……..to list out a few.
These are just small deeds, which we can stop from happening, after all little drops of water do make a mighty ocean.
 All we need is an awakening, a real urge, in each and everyone of us, to do what is right, to follow our conscience, to do what is best possible at our end for the greater good of the world,
Even if that involves shelving out our personal interests and glory, for some time.
If this sounds practically impossible, and appears to be only a sequence of words…..you are welcome to stop reading this article and flip this page, Because, everything actually depends on the individual, be it the desire to see a better India, to rise against wrong, to do what is right, or to strive to make Mother India feel proud of her children.

VANDE MATARAM!
